Our friend and former neighbor, Chris, asked me to help out with a family photo yesterday. Luckily, I was starting to feel slightly more human again, so was able to get the camera stuff together and drive to Kaneohe.
Turned out to be quite a family shindig, with four generations of Emersons together in one place. His mom, Sheila, at 86, enjoying her spot at the center of the family.
It’s hard to go wrong in this kind of setting. The light was right, a nice overcast sky breaking up shadows, a little fill flash to take care of the rest. That’s Chris, in the center with dark glasses.

Earlier, over a mid-morning breakfast, one of the youngest and her mom, who grew up here in Kaaawa when they lived on our street. The photo still needs some tweaking, but it captured a nice moment.

In any case, I expect to do our morning walk again this morning, the first time after several days out sick.

I never understood the idea of having a picture taken of you while wearing sunglasses. Defeats the purpose of getting a photographic image of you. I mean why not then wear a hat too? and be rubbing your nose? cover as much of your face as you can. Either that or take yer sunglasses of for a brief minute, what’s so difficult about that? “There’s uncle Harry hiding back there. At least I think it’s uncle Harry. Don’t remember what he looks like. Not many clear unobstructed photos of him around.” But it’s a nice pali pic!
I think his glasses are like mine–they darken automatically in the sun, and you don’t even notice it happening. I probably should have suggested removing them.
