Most bus stops in Kaaawa lack basic amenities. There used to be benches under small shelters from the rain in the two stops in front of the 7-11, but both have been removed. One was hit by a car, the other was found to be encroaching on the adjacent property.
Recently, though, it looks like someone has taken direct action.
Down on Kamehameha Highway, between Pollinalina and Puakenikeni, someone has left a chair for the use of bus riders. It is carefully mark: “For bus patrons. Do not remove, please.”
I love it.

It is hard to tell from the pictures but that metal chair looks a lot like the ones I have seen in some fast food restaurants. I am betting that the kind soul who put it there “removed” it from somewhere else.
I would say that’s pretty funny in a sense… but at least you folks have bus stops! People just stand on the side of one of the states most dangerous highways here in Puna anywhere they want and simply “Flag” the “Hele On” down to catch it.
You have to love Puna’s makeshift stops that people erect on their own:

Wonderful and thoughtful.
Sadly, either some crook/punk will toss it in the back of their truck or the city will start the 12-month procedure for processing Form 4645-2010 for “Removal of Illicitly Placed and Improperly Constructed Chair at City Bus Stop”, which will require the stamped approval of 16 administrators. It’s only a matter of time.
