Why do cats like to greet each other with their version of a friendly headbutt? I’m never quite sure about the meaning. The initiating cat wants something, but I’m not quite sure what. I remember reading that there’s some dominance-submission hierarchy involved, but the rest goes vague.
In any case, this is a great introduction to today’s Feline Friday, featuring a series of photos with two or more cats of the cats in each.
As I mention in one of the captions, I picked up a camera and felt like the Pied Piper. Cats seemed to be attracted by the camera, and paraded out from different spots to join in the fun. It started on the deck, moved up the driveway, then back to the front yard in a series of great photo opps.

What a nice way to start the day. This batch of pictures definitely put a smile on my face 🙂
A friend of mine had a small lynx. The first time I met it, they told me to put my forehead down by the lynx’s face and it head-butted me just like you wrote in today’s piece.
But the lynx was larger than a house cat, and that head-butt was *hard*!
Your cat photos are a highlight on our aloha Fridays. We just lost a 12+ old tabby to cancer and he was quite friendly with our other two cats — including head butts and licks. The younger ones — would rather swat each other than butt heads. I guess they are still establishing the hierarchy now that the old one is gone.
Felines in the rough: my favorite!
