The newly formed Public Land Development Corporation is apparently the first agency to trip over the requirements of Governor Abercrombie’s September 15, 2011 executive order requiring all state agencies to post meeting notices and agendas on the state’s official online calendar.
An email sent out Friday afternoon by the Department of Land and Natural Resources announced cancellation of PLDC’s meeting scheduled for next week.
Attached please find the CANCELLED agenda for the Public Land Development Corporation meeting that was to be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. The agenda was not posted on the State Calendar as required under Hawaii Sunshine Laws and therefore, the meeting will be rescheduled. My apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused. A subsequent e-mail will follow as soon as the new meeting is set. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
The cancellation notice incorrectly points to the sunshine law. That law, Chapter 92 HRS, was written before the digital age and the ability to share information online. The law, at section 92-7, requires meeting notices, including a detailed agenda, to be filed with the Lt. Governor’s or county clerk’s office, made available in the agency’s office for public inspection, and mailed to anyone who has requested notification.
Abercrombie’s order extends the reach of the law and requires centralized online access via the state calendar.
The calendar requirement applies to all state “agencies, boards, commisions, authorities, committees, councils, and the like,” which must now post to the calendar at the same time as they file with the Lt. Governor’s office.

The public should also have easy access to photos of ALL commission and board members and a little background of their past and present employers.
