Feline Friday: From Kaaawa to Green Bay

catsRomeo and Silverman welcome you to another Feline Friday.

Romeo, closest to the camera, is now a star. I haven’t checked his video popularity yet this morning, but his “Wake-up call” on YouTube topped 28,000 views yesterday, and I’ll bet he’s at or over 29,000 today. He’s been averaging about 1,000 views a day all this week. Has it gone to his head? Possibly, although I don’t think he can count that high.

Before going further, I wanted to let you know about a project that I wish I had thought of first.

Green Bay Ray, also known as Ray Barrington, a longtime reader here and a survivor of a brutal newspaper war in Wisconsin (no, I won’t mention the “G” word), has launched a new project. A potential cat book.

Here’s his description of the project, beginning with a sideway’s pitch for Chronicles, his collection of columns on a variety of subjects from his earlier newspaper days. I just bought an ebook version, and it’s great reading. Recommended.

Now, on to his new project.

Not that I still wouldn’t love to have you buy a copy of Chronicles…

But I am starting a new project, either as an article or book.

How did your cat get its name? Something odd? Named after someone? Born in an odd place (my sister’s cat, born in a shoebox, was named Reebok)? Please send me the name and story – I think this will be very enjoyable for all cat lovers!

Of course, he includes a great photo of his two cats, Bikini and Tikit. You’ll have to click that link for that little treat, and to send along the story of your cat’s name.

What a great idea….Hey, Ray, won’t it also make a great web site?

WallySo, back to Feline Friday in Kaaawa.

This is Ms. Wally. She’s eating. That’s HUGE. More than a month ago, she lost her appetite. At best, she managed a couple of mouthfuls before losing interest. She went through several rounds of tests, as one possible cause after another was eliminated. Finally, with no explanation found, we ended up having to just wait. For several weeks, she continued to play the very finicky cat. But this week, without warning and without apparent reason, she finally began showing interest in food again. In this picture, she was enthusiastically eating through a dish of Friskie’s canned cat food. I was quietly cheering as she ate. It’s a major turnaround. Now we just hope it continues.

That’s the cat news for the week.

I just want to say that with his slightly extended muzzle, Mr. Romeo looks like a pit bull. He seems to have the attitude of a bar bouncer.

As for the latest entry on Ansoldo’s local manager, let’s just say that Italians really seem to have a deep instinctual understanding of how to get connected.

I am amused by the comments that grouse about corruption and greed. That misses the point. As Lee Cataluna commented about Rod Tam, the point is not that Tam was corrupt. Plenty of politicians are corrupt, like Congressmen who go to free junkets to Cancun resorts staffed with free hookers, or politicians involved in multi-billion-dollar ocean-front development projects who later quietly retire with mysterious wealth. The point is that Rod Tam took his wife to low-end Japanese restaurants and charged the City for that. He would ramble on oddly like a homeless person. Most importantly, he kept getting re-elected!

The point seems to be that Hawaii Motorsports was built with public funds because a governor was addicted to driving race cars (and forcing his staff to do the same). That’s comical, like something out of a movie poking fun at rural life or life in a Third World country, like a dictator’s wife with thousands of shoes.
