Sunrise in Chicago

ChicagoHere’s one way to escape APEC–get on a plane and fly to Chicago and beyond.

Yup. We got out of Dodge. This involved an evening flight out of Honolulu, and arriving in Chicago in time to watch the sunrise. We’re off to Washington, D.C. after a short layover.

I’m accompanying Meda to the annual meeting of the American Society of Criminology, which convenes next week in DC. And we’ll visit with friends, formerly of Kaaawa, over this weekend.

Our impending departure made Thursday a bit crazy. I had to get Duke and Silverman to VCA, since they need to get their insulin shots while we’re gone. “Medical boarding” is the VCA term. Then we got our favorite cat sitter settled in. The cats all love David, and he takes over when we travel. We got to the airport in plenty of time due to worry about possible random APEC-caused road closures. And now, after an eight hour flight, here we are, sitting next to the Starbucks at one end of United’s C Concourse waiting for our connecting flight.

And so it goes on this Friday morning.

Who can calculate all the expenses from all – federal, state, city involved in APEC to prove it was a great idea?

Did Obama help push for this too? What about other bureaucrats and Hawaii politicians? I don’t care for both the Republicans and Democrats. They all follow whichever big money Pipe Piper it may be. They are hardly for the general public.
