Occupy Kualoa Park

Apparently Kaaawa and the rest of Koolauloa will be a prisoner of APEC tomorrow.

I understand Kamehameha Highway will be closed in advance of the arrival of the entourage led by Michelle Obama. They’re heading for lunch at Kualoa Ranch. Congratulations to John Morgan, who deserves the attention the visit will bring to Kualoa.

But closing off our only road towards Kaneohe is going to create a bit of a mess for residents, to be sure. It also creates an opportunity to let the public know about the development pressures threatening the area.

It has spawned an “Occupy Kualoa Regional Park” protest.

SIGN-HOLDING PARTY!

(Bring your own pupus. Water will be provided.)
OCCUPY KUALOA REGIONAL PARK (Chinaman’s Hat)
Ka’a’awa, Windward Oahu

Sunday – November 13, 2011
Please come BEFORE 9:30 AM (Road will be blocked after that).

Come! Enjoy the country with your family. Bring your own signs or just come enjoy this scenic coast of Windward Oahu that we must save from massive developments.

Our objective is to share with the First Lady Michelle Obama, APEC leader’s spouses, and the media the importance of preserving the rural charm of Ko’olauloa and North Shore from mega developments for all to enjoy. (Somebody must know! They are coming to enjoy the country!) . “KEEP THE COUNTRY COUNTRY” & “protect our farm lands for food security” is critical to the long-term sustainability of our small island. DIVERSITY IS GOOD BUSINESS too.

Mega Developments = mega traffic = inevitable two-lane Kamehameha Hwy widening = displacement of homes/businesses from Kahalu’u to Haleiwa = ousted kama’ianas!

I like the idea and the tone of this! DIVERSITY IS GOOD BUSINESS!

Can’t agree more. The only short-term benefit to cement all of Oahu is mostly for the 1% developers, politicians, and bureaucrats.

We’ve got to fight. Notice Obama’s $3700 a couple Fundraiser involves cementers like Sanford Carr, and Jeff Stone.

Lot’s of wining and dining around. According to Civil Beat: “We’ve been hearing about private dinners hosted at Honolulu homes this week to schmooze with APEC delegates, details have been scant.

But tonight there’s one at the home of Honolulu developer Bert Kobayashi and his wife Susan.”

Does the public stand a chance in land-use policy against these inside trading?

Keep the Country Country! Has my full support! I don’t like living in a society where people cannot freely travel. This APEC has b een a nightmare for Oahu… If world leaders were doing a better job, there would not be a need for such high security!

While I like your sentiment, I am not sure that the security needs of government leaders correlate with how good a job they are doing.

The US ruling class will blackmail, bribe, charm, scandalize and/or kill effective opponents to their profits. If Obama were doing a better job, he would need to double his security.

Next time these leaders want o get together, they should do it over their iPhones with FaceTime. Or in some dictatorship like China, were people are unable to demonstrate. They did us no favor by coming to Hawaii.

    How true!!

Property owners and businesses along Kamehameha Highway should be up in arms now.

You folks don’t stand up for yourselves, you’ll get rolled over.

DOT is trying to widen the Kahekili Hwy in Kaneohe.

You let the developers have their way; there will be a rail through the Koolau mountains and right to the doorstep of Mayor Peter Carlisle as he likes it.

NO ENVISION LAIE at the Malaekahana ahupua’a.

NO more hotels at Turtle Bay Resort.

NO UGLY LAIE MARRIOTT COURTYARD in Laie.

This is the country, not Waikiki or Ewa.
