A friend in Kaaawa found this online collection of photos from the 1946 tsunami that hit Hawaii. The photos are from an image database maintained by the National Geophysical Data Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Included are several photographs of the tsunami aftermath in Kaaawa and nearby communities, as well as spots from Nawiliwili to Waikiki to Hilo. Some are taken from the ground, others from the air. There are also a few photos of damage along the California coast.

No comments yet? Mahalo for sharing these…. Mention of the Kaaawa Jungle Training Camp piqued my interest. A quick Google puts it in Kahana valley.
The Jungle Training Center, where they actually did the training, was in Kahana. The camp, where those involved in the training were housed, was here in Kaaawa.
The hand to hand combat training was taught in Kaaawa near the encampment, just below the gun mount on the ridge. The amphitheater was cut into the hillside and you can see it today if you know where to look.
