Meet Ms. Maka!

No, she doesn’t always look this demented. We came along the beach just in time to send her into an acute “approach-approach conflict.” She really wanted to carry her stick around and then have someone throw it out into the water, but she also really wanted to run to us and beg for a dog biscuit. You could almost see her brain working on the problem. As I recall, she decided to drop the stick and go for the biscuit first, then immediately snatch the stick up and return to her fetching.
Maka lives with her people one street above us on the hill here in Kaaawa, and we’ve gotten to know her. She started out as a totally shy, scaredy dog. Then she learned about the biscuits. And, once hooked, she became most forward in courting us, knowing that at any point a treat might miraculously appear.
In any case, a comment left on the Friday Felines’ post last week asked about the dogs. So I’ve grabbed a few photos of some of our Kaaawa morning dogs, the canine friends we meet on our walks to the beach and back at dawn.
