If you were used to getting your dose of iLind.net delivered to your inbox via email, you have likely noticed that the email feed disappeared last week.
In this case, I fear it’s a self-inflicted injury.
It started when I learned that a strange little website was blatantly stealing all of my entries and posting them as their own, apparently in some scheme to produce income.
So I asked a couple of people for suggestions on what I could do to block this theft, and then experimented with several of the changes.
Something I did managed to successfully block my content from appearing on that other site.
But I slowly started getting messages from people who had abruptly stopped receiving their daily emails at the same time.
Obviously this is no coincidence.
So now I’m trying to remember each of the changes I made and reverse them.
I would much appreciate email subscribers letting me know if (a) they still aren’t getting any updates, or (b) the updates miraculously restart. Both bits of information will help. And, of course, if anyone is still getting their email updates, that would be important as well. Please let me know!

Had no idea that you sent your daily missives via e-mail. I assumed that only “paid-for” local subscriptions – Civil Beat and the Star-Advertiser – did so.
In the last half hour or so, I just tried several times to e-mail you at ian@ilind.net. Each attempt resulted in a “Mail Delivery Failure”–apparently my two e-mail addresses are considered to be spam. I assume that this is all part of the larger problem that you are dealing with.
Ahh, that also might explain no new posts from you showing up on feedly for the last 7 days.
sue them plagiarists, win big, move to Kauai.
😀
Back in the 1990s when I maintained the city’s traffic camera feeds on the web as a public service, I ran into a similar situation of someone stealing the images and posting them on his website.
We went through a round of cat and mouse games including blocking his access by prohibiting his IP address from visiting, but he kept changing his address.
Given the open nature of the web, it’s hard to prevent a persistent wrong-doer from wrong doing.
I am not sure if there is a legal remedy as “t” suggested.

Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers) about Piracy or Copyright Infringement
Question: What are the penalties for copyright infringement, such as making infringing copies of software?
Answer: In a civil suit, an infringer may be liable for a copyright owner’s actual damages plus any profits made from the infringement. Alternatively, the copyright owner may avoid proving actual damage by electing a statutory damage recovery of up to $30,000 or, where the court determines that the infringement occurred willfully, up to $150,000. The actual amount will be based upon what the court in its discretion considers just. (17 U.S.C. 504)
Violation of copyright law is also considered a federal crime when done willfully with an intent to profit. Criminal penalties include up to ten years imprisonment depending on the nature of the violation. (No Electronic Theft Act, 18 U.S.C. 2319)
