My weekly column over at CivilBeat.com, which appears most Wednesdays, was prompted by an unusual state press release critical of a cable series running on History called “American Jungle.”
When the Star-Advertiser first reported on the state’s press release, which called the series’ portrayal of hunting in Hawaii ““inaccurate, offensive, and in some cases, potentially illegal,” it mentioned the program is produced by Relativity Media LLC. That’s the same company that paid an $8,500 fine to settle charges that it violated state lobbying laws while pushing for a substantial increase in public funding for film and video productions.
Later. a friend called and bent my ear about the situation. He had noted that news reporting had not connected the this latest production with the earlier controversy over undisclosed lobbying expenditures.
So when I sat down to write my column this week, I tried to connect the dots.

I’ve been following the bozos at Rusty Boar for quite a while. Their huge egos are documented by multiple photos of themselves with various corpses. They often pose their children with dead animals and holding weapons. Their website endorses “Defend Hawai’i” an organization that uses an AR-15 for its logo on T-shirts along with “Welcome to Paradise”
The group pic with the dead cow was removed from their site- perhaps they DO have a sense of shame-but not before I posted it to the Animal Rights Hawai’i FB page https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=649954928398133&id=289777571082539
The prevalence of TV shows that delight and grovel in the baser side of human nature is indeed distressing – to think that taxpayer dollars may have been used- horrible!
Mahalo for providing the external link to what you posted on the Civil Beat.
I cannot possibly afford to pay for all the news sites that I would want to.
After a few things settle down in my life… I may be linking back to that.
I’m over hear on the Big Island hearing lots of stuff… but due to the nature of so many folks being uptight about this issue… I haven’t covered it as thoroughly as I could.
