If you’re interested in the infighting at the University of Hawaii and allegations of outside interference in academic administration, you might want to check out my column this week over at Civil Beat (“Hawaii Monitor: Apple Takes Another Bite of Cancer Center Controversy“).
This is mostly an update on the issue and a report on UH Manoa Chancellor’s remarks before the Faculty Senate earlier this month.
Apple, speaking at the senate’s regular January 15 meeting, credited UH President David Lassner and members of the Board of Regents for their efforts to find “the best path for now.”
However, Apple said, the move is only a temporary solution and will be revisited within the year, according to notes taken by one member of the senate and later confirmed by two others.
“I do not believe that what we have now is permanent solution,” Apple said.
The chancellor also confirmed his earlier attempt to replace Cancer Center Michele Carbone, which had been widely reported by news media.
