Paywalls that have gone up around many newspapers are making it difficult for avid news raiders to get their fill without breaking the bank.

I think of PressReader.com as sort of the “Netflix” or “Hulu” of print.

PressReader can be accessed online at PressReader.com or downloaded as an app to tablets, smartphones or eReaders running on iOS, Android, Windows 8 and Blackberry 10 operating systems.
For a fixed fee of $29.99 per month, subscribers can roam through over some 2,296 publications from countries around the world. Access is via a print replica edition of the publication provided by PressReader rather than through the regular website. I’ve tried out the iPad version of the PressReader software, and have accessed PressReader via a browser on my laptop. An iPhone version is also available, as are versions for Android, Windows, Kindle, and Blackberry as well as Mac and iOS.
At the PressReader website, you can check the very long list of publications, search for those in English or in other languages, and even search for specific terms appearing in news stories across those 2,200+ publications.
Translations into about a dozen languages are also available, although I haven’t tried those out yet.
I admit to only scratching the surface of PressReader.
If that print replica edition looks familiar, it’s the same technology that produces the Star-Advertiser’s print replica, and, yes, the S-A is available via PressReader.
Coverage is not 100%, and you’ll need to check whether your favorites are available via PressReader. For example, I like to check in on Northwest news. The Seattle Times is available, but the Oregonian, down in Portland, is not. But overall, PressReader offers a lot.

The spam comments are effectively filtered out and don’t show up on the site, but the filtering comes after they are processed through the server.
What the captcha process does is reject the automated spam before it gets to the server.
At least that’s the way it was explained to me by Hostrocket.
