Lingle named to top state post in Illinois

News flash: The Chicago Sun Times has reported that former Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle has been named to a newly created, high-ranking position by the new governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner.

In remarks at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, Rauner said Lingle will come on board in what appears to be the newly created position of chief operating officer.

“We’ve got a former governor,” Rauner said. “She was a superstar governor for eight years and led a major turnaround. She’s ready and coming to do similar things here.”

Is this Lingle’s base for reemerging as a national GOP political figure?

[Note: A typo in the original headline on this post was an autocorrect error and not a Freudian slip.]

    naturally, the first question:

what was the typo? is it evil enough to be tonight’s leading social media breaking news drama? will you need to apologize on CNN? did 110,000 media people retweet it? did my neighbor already post “worst comment EVERRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!” will someone here miss the sarcasm and take this literally like a 10 year old? inquirer minds must know.

Linda Lingle (no autocorrect error) moving to Chicago. Malia Zimmerman moving to Los Angeles. Duke Aiona stepping out of politics. Sam Slom having a health problem that interfered with his speech on opening day of the legislature. Soon Hawaii will be free of conservative opposition to the leftwing oligarchy. I’d better send my life-savings to the mainland before it gets confiscated for welfare programs, railroad, and other big-government boondoggles.

Lingle was a very poor administrator. One of her biggest faults was that she isolated herself and surrounded herself with incompetents. She refused to even sit down and meet with folks that she disagreed with. This created additional problems and ill will that could have been avoided if she had tried to dialogue and build bridges with opposing views.

    Wailau, lol.

Lingle is a great liar. Gay community leaders met with her and became convinced then-governor Lingle would approve the gay marriage bill. then reality struck.

meanwhile, Ken: “Soon Hawaii will be free of conservative opposition to the leftwing oligarchy.”

for this to happen, you would need to snuff roughly 1/3 of Hawaii’s so-called “democrats”. not likely.

I am no defender of Linda Lingle, however, what “t” said above is a bit misleading. I am one of the gay leaders who met with Lingle, and did so 2-3 times during my tenure as Co-Chair of Equality. At no time did Lingle ever reveal her hand to us about what she would do regarding the civil union bill.
No promises or assurances were given.

What she did to us was much much worse. The day before her planned announcement, I got a call from one of her cabinet members inviting me to attend her press briefing the following day. We assumed that this meant she would either sign the bill or let it become law without her signature, most likely the latter. It was not only the right thing to do, it also made the most political sense.

At the briefing, we were seated with our opponents opposite us (assigned seating) looking at each other face to face. Before Lingle announced her veto, she had the chutzpah to tell us that no one could leave the room and that we weren’t allowed to have an emotional reaction. She then proceeded to announce the veto.

    Part 2

What she did was very cruel. I sat with a blank stare and was not going to let Lingle or our opponents see my emotions. Other folks on our side were crying, including someone who’s husband was a personal associate of Lingle.

What she did was horrible, a breach of protocol, and just plain mean. But….she turned civil unions into a political issue for the 2010 election and this motivated lots of people to mobilize around Abercrombie. Additionally, her veto got international attention and donations started flooding into Equality Hawaii, including a $100,000 grant to our foundation. Membership skyrocketed too.

In the end, her veto actually served to strengthen the LGBT community in Hawaii and helped to enhance the foundation for the eventual passage of full marriage equality.

Quick clarification to “t”. I just re-read your posting and realized that I misinterpreted what you said. Sorry. You said that we met with her and became convinced…… Though I do hope my further details shed more light on what fully occurred.

Thanks Alan. For me, a misleader is a liar. not much gray area, except in Lingle’s hair. I am glad to hear everything fared for the better for you. i am also glad Lingle Lingle is back in the closet, oops I mean back on the mainland. bad typo.

I personally look forward to the day when all traces of conservatism is obliterated from these islands. It will be a relief not to deal with a bunch of racist, bible-thumpin’ homophobes. (Two can play this game of lobbing incendiary stereotypes at each other, Mr. Conklin. Anything positive you hope to accomplish with this line of discussion, sir?)

Getting back to Lingle: Guess she hasn’t quite gotten politics out of her bloods. Having all but squandered whatever political capital and goodwill she possessed here, taking her act to mainland is the only way for her to scratch that itch.

Chief Operating Officer? Can’t wait to see what Superferry-like boondoggle Lingle will burden Illinois with.

Lingle deliberately put incompetents and political hacks in charge of certain departments in order to run them into the ground. She ruined the Historic Preservation Division. This caused the feds to have to step in and they were going to pull the funding and certification.
