Am I the only one having trouble getting the Hawaii News Now website to display using the Safari browser on a Mac? I get an almost blank screen. I first noticed it a couple of days ago. Failure to support Apple’s widely-used browser seems to be a bit of an issue.
The site shows up just fine if I switch to Firefox.
And have you noticed the new online look of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser? Much more “bloggy” looking, better use of graphics (in my opinion), but still cluttered. [Sorry. That sentence was originally hijacked by Ms. Auto Correct and turned into “bloody”. I wish I had noticed and corrected it sooner.]
My pet peeve: The casual mix of local, national, and international news. When one of today’s lead stories says, “Marshalls reviewing procedures after inmate escapes,” I looked to see where in town the escapes had happened. But after clicking through, it turns out the story was from Virginia.
I think I’m like most people. I look to the Star-Advertiser for Hawaii news. So why do they make us wade through the mishmash of local and non-local to extract the relevant Hawaii news? Some better characterization would help.
And how about a search field somewhere on the main page? As far as I can tell, in the current iteration, you need to know to click on the “Archives” link to reveal a way to search for specific topics. Am I missing something? The former design let you at least search the last week from a search function near the top of the main page. That seems to have been removed.
All in all, I’m glad to see the S-A working on its look and feel. A bit more work seems in order, though.

I just checked it in Safari on my iMac and there doesn’t seem to be any problems here in Kihei.
After seeing your comment, I checked again. Now it loads fine. I wonder why it wasn’t working earlier?
I think the SA site has improved. The Breaking News section has always been a miss-mash. I still prefer reading the “print replica” on my iPad, though.
I like it. On the other hand, ESPN just relaunched their site and whew….I can’t find anything. I think someone is trying too hard…….
I am far less concerned about the aesthetics of format and presentation on the website, and far more concerned about biased selection of topics to be reported, biased reporting in the content of the articles, and how the editorial viewpoint seems to dictate both selection and reporting. I know some will say there’s a wall between the news side and the editorial side — maybe that’s what they (used to) teach in journalism school, but it sure is not what is done at the Star-Advertiser or either of its predecessors.
After a long search, I found the Search at the very tip top of the page, to the left of the Login button.
I think the site looks better but agree the mishmash of local & national with no clarity on which is which is problematic. It’s almost a click-bait style tactic, getting us to think it’s some crazy, violent local news, when it is not.
Did anyone find an answer to the HNN problem or figure out if we could do something? I’m having the same exact problem. Firefox worked well however.
