Throwback Thursday: In the kitchen c.2001

Here’s a selfies with one of our homemade pizzas in May 2001, before the word “selfie” was applied to such photos. It was just months after the Star-Bulletin and I parted ways following it’s purchase by Canadian publisher, David Black.

The photo was taken in our kitchen in Kaaawa using a Canon S10 digital camera, according to the embedded data.

It appears to include pepperoni, green peppers, olives, basil, mozzarella cheese, probably anchovies, on a homemade crust.

    Looks delicious.
pizza is the adobo of the West: you can make it any way you like, in any country, with any topping, and call it pizza.

In those days, I liked to make my own bread, and pizza dough. I didn’t start buying ready-made pizza crusts until relatively recently, as I got lazier, perhaps.

That looks like a wonderful pizza. Sometimes getting older just means having other things to do, other than baking bread or pizza crusts from scratch. I’m taking all the short cuts I can find!

I love baking bread from scratch, waiting for it to rise, going through several rounds of kneading, getting accustomed to the “feel” of the dough when it’s just right. I regret not taking time recently to enjoy the process.
