The presidential campaign is heating up for both parties.
The NY Times laid out the GOP plight today in a good story, “G.O.P. Fears Donald Trump as Zombie Candidate: Damaged but Unstoppable.”
And Steven Colbert did a doozie of an interview with the cartoon Donald Trump, definitely worth viewing.
Meanwhile, there’s dissension over on the blue side of the aisle as well.
In recent days, there have been several broadsides in defense of Hillary Clinton, which hit various aspects of Bernie Sander’s campaign themes.
These two caught my attention. From the Daily Kos, “Stop. Rachel Maddow is Not “Basically Fox News,” and Dozens of Good Democrats Aren’t Corrupt Shills.”
And from Slate, sharp comments from Barney Frank, “Barney Frank Is Not Impressed by Bernie Sanders.”
And the campaigns roll along.

Seen this happen with our local political issues. Demonizing others and defining complex issues as having simple solutions with heroes/villains is an effective way to convince thoughtful people to tune out, then opt out.

Why is it any big deal that Barney Frank is “not impressed” with Bernie? Frank has been a staunch ally of the Clintons from the first day Bubba stepped into the White House. His sister has worked in various roles for the Clintons for decades. What’s next? An article of how Debbie Wasserman Schultz is likewise “not impressed” with Sanders?
And for anyone who thinks that Barney Frank is a warrior for progressive economic reform, do keep in mind that the former congressman is now in bed with the banking industry and has repeatedly used his appearances on cable news to disparage efforts at trying to restore Glass-Steagall.

I- we – have two rather serious jobs at this juncture of the 2016 election, not just one: First, select (#2) a Republican primary candidate for US president and accordingly (#1) a Democratic primary candidate as well to take the crunch. My choice for # 2, which as plan B notwithstanding all else, would be the Donald, he’s da man in case – step back and look at it – the Democratic leadership has some sort of year 2000 dumb assumed or perceived meltdown. It’s happened unfortunately before, and you weren’t that young (rhymes with Gore?).
The responses on MSNBC on TV today on what I guess was a rerun on tape of the Chris Matthews interview from the studio at the Green Bay campus of the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay showed me nothing whatsoever that I could not like about the Donald. Trump was good. Trump was terrific! Look at it! I challenge you, you here in Hawaii – on MSNBC cable channel 107 coming up again on Sunday morning, April 3, at 10am, and again – come on! – at 1pm in full view for an hour – It’s called by NBC “Trump Town Hall” – he is good. Trump does nothing off course – except under duress: the powers that be later skewed the spin introducing various inevitably cyclonic abortion question matters.
(There was also a “Kasich Town Hall” on MSNBC – it too was very good – but somehow according to TV Guide the Kasich Town Hall presentation will not make it to Sunday TV.)
My – as I say, your – 2 jobs in the primary season (2 of them at the same time, please note) are to support both a good Republican, say Trump in one party that we may indeed have to live with – as well as a supremely good-governance Democratic candidate, clearly enough Hillary – and then forthwith this summer the general election season will proceed to materially decimate the Republican setup – trust us to join in and if justice prevails we shall all proceed to do away with the whole steaming Republican party, but not until it’s discesplinedly got it’s fevered ducks or whatever farm personnel all lined up against the wall and it is clearly timely to legally delete them deservedly.
Meanwhile the Donald has just done an overwhelmingly valid interview with Chris Matthews. Trump did nothing wrong in this MSNBC interview – except that he was noticeably bludgeoned verbally into making a snippet of a stance on a primordially existential nation-wide abortion rights question in an all too quick instant.
Children! Get back to work. People in India & Bangladesh viscerally want our/your jobs! Focus. We have a good Republican nominee: It is Trump! And a good Democratic nominee: She is Hillary! Wait till later in the General election to overwhelmingly stomp decisively on the Trumpster, and then be done with Republicans – but until then, well, we may even need Donald Trump! Once he applies himself he will probably just not be at all that bad in working this out. And if he is, Hillary will ably level him.
(Anybody notice how greatly the national Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson resembles Julia Louis Dreyfus, The Veep?)
