Here’s an interesting tool from the Sunlight Foundation. It’s a system that facilitates messages to your members of Congress. It’s called, simply enough, “Email Congress.”
Members of Congress don’t provide email addresses for public use, but instead have online forms for leaving messages. It’s not the easiest system to navigate.
Enter “Email Congress.”
Here’s their explanation.
It’s not easy to get in touch with members of Congress. You have to navigate different, complicated web forms each time you want to send a message to your representatives.
Now, with Email Congress you can use your own email to write to your reps. After you sign up, our technology does all the work, so all you have to do is send an email!
Remember we’re not Congress, we just help you communicate with your representatives.
Signing up is simple. You just go to the sign-up page, then enter your name, address, email, and phone.
They’ll then send you an email with a verification link. Click it and you’re done. My verification email was snagged by the spam filter, so be sure to check there if it doesn’t arrive almost immediately.
The system then identifies your senators and representative, and provides a special email address to use for contacting each of them.
Your emails are are then routed through the “Email Congress” system, which translates them into the Congressional web forms. And they provide a separate email address to contact all of delegation at once.
It seems like a very useful system to have on hand and available when you want to let Washington how you feel about an issue.
