We walked down to the beach early this morning, as usual, and arrived perhaps 15 minutes before sunrise. On the beach fronting Waialae Beach Park, three men were preparing for a fishing expedition out beyond the reef into Maunalua Bay. Their two kayaks and a small outrigger were full of gear. It was a beautiful morning for such a venture.

The photo below a while later, farther down the beach. The sun appeared over the horizon in just a couple of minutes. A wonderfully clear and calm day.

A Muslim college student in San Diego was robbed and Latino high school students in Northern California were given mock “deportation letters” by a classmate in incidents that authorities believe were tied to Donald Trump’s election as U.S. president.
Two men confronted a female student in a parking lot stairwell at San Diego State University on Wednesday, “made comments about President-elect Trump and the Muslim community,” and then stole her keys and her car, university police said in a statement.
The university president said the woman was wearing a hijab, officials said. She was robbed of her purse and backpack, police said. ……..

Those of us who have been mourning since Tuesday appreciate the beauty and serenity that Ian shares with us. It reminds us that the beauty of nature is healing. Ian has shared his life with us- the good times and the sad- I thank Ian for sharing his life with us- we know that we face tremendous hurdles with the new administration, so let’s take a moment to enjoy the blessings we enjoy just living in Hawai’i.
