Romeo welcomes you to this Feline Friday

Yes, it’s another Feline Friday. And I’ll let Romeo set the tone.

Mr. Romeo

On the other side of the room, there’s a cat tree. It’s Ms. Annie’s cat tree. Her routine spot to sleep away the day is at the top of the tree where she can look out an upper window.

That fact makes the room irresistible to Romeo. He checks regularly for opportunities to harass or annoy Annie. He looks for food that she hasn’t eaten quickly enough. He’ll compete for space on the window sill looking out over the front yard. He just struts his stuff to try to prove he’s top cat. But if he gets too close, or pushes too hard, Annie will suddenly launch a blindingly fast surprise attack, smacking him with a paw full of claws and backing him off to a respectful distance. In our bedroom, which is more neutral territory, she’ll let Romeo lick her head, although she’s pretty wary about this turning into another dominance display.

Anyway, it’s just one of those little dynamics that make watching cats interesting.

We declined our friend/contractor’s advice to put in a new floor, and instead insisted that the original 1940 floor be kept. We were lucky that we were able to get matching vertical grain fir for the small area where the footprint of the house was expanded to allow a bigger kitchen. The floor was open to the elements during the remodel. It was rained on, tromped on by work shoes, etc. But a bit of sanding and care brought it back beautifully. We’re happy.
