We arrived in Hilo yesterday to start a long weekend visit. Meda started with a meeting over lunch with several folks from UH Hilo to discuss Manoa’s effort to design a new degree in criminology/criminal justice. Meda is coordinating the planning, and is trying to get broad input and participation along the way.
Meanwhile, I headed off to visit two old friends. We met in the early 1970s and been back in touch since they settled in Hilo some years ago. They graciously invited me to share a lunch, and Mae quickly displayed her artistic eye. There were several types of olives, an artichoke spread, and two small loaves of wonderful loaves of bread (yet to be served) along with freshly pressed olive oil from the California Olive Ranch.
More from Hilo later.
I should say that this trip marks a couple of firsts. It’s my first time traveling without wearing glasses. After nearly 50 years with glasses, it is still counter-intuitive. I reach up to adjust nonexistent glasses at least once an hour. Old habits die hard.
And its the first trip I’ve taken without bringing along a small, travel computer. I have an 11″ Macbook Air for such uses, and it generally accompanies us as a routine matter. This time I decided, rashly, to rely on my iPad Pro. The problem is that I’ve never processed photos wholly on the iPad, and I’ve never blogged on it. So this is uncharted territory with a learning curve.
Hopefully you couldn’t tell the difference until I disclosed the facts.
In any case, we’re off to explore a bit. More from Hilo later.
