The American Society of Criminology is holding their annual meetings in Atlanta this week. When the board meets on Saturday, Meda will take over as the incoming ASC president for a one-year term which ends when they convene in San Francisco next November. So this will be a busy meeting for her, and the beginning of a busy year.

We fly out of Honolulu this evening, leaving the cats in the care of a new cat sitter (new for us, that is). We’ll have a layover of several hours in Denver before catching our connecting flight to Atlanta. The temperature in Atlanta is forecast to be in the mid-40s when we arrive Monday afternoon. I’m not sure we’re ready for that!

In the meantime, our prepping for the trip has been complicated by a water outage on our block. There was a break in the water line just up the street early this morning, sending water and mud flowing down the block. The water was apparently turned off relatively quickly, and it only took a couple of hours for Board of Water Supply crews to mobilize and arrive at the scene to begin repairs.

A water wagon also appeared quickly, so at least we can keep our indoor plumbing operational. I have to give the BWS good marks for springing into action quickly on an early Sunday morning.

Their job was made a bit trickier as runners in a Sunday morning half-marathon came streaming down the street and past the site of the break.

But if water isn’t flowing by mid-afternoon, we’ll be hitting up friends in the neighborhood for use of their showers! And that last-minute load of wash? I guess that’s right out.
