The cats got good news and bad news this week.

Annie got the bad news. Her annual check-up included a blood test that showed elevated levels indicating kidney issues. These are very common in older cats, but that doesn’t make it any less worrying. So we’ll shift her over to a kidney-friendly diet, encourage her to drink more water, and test her again in a couple of months. She was also sent home with a tube of ointment to treat itchy patches on her chin.

Duke, meanwhile, turned out to have stellar blood test results. His numbers looked very much like a regular cat, according to our vet. So we are reducing his insulin dose by 25%, and then in a few days I’ll follow his blood sugar levels through a 12-hour period to see how his system is responding to the change.
