Attorney takes top defense lawyer along for federal grand jury appearance

Hawaii News Now reported yesterday one of those appearing before a federal grand jury was Honolulu attorney Myles Breiner, who represented Louis and Katherine Kealoha before their 2017 indictment and subsequent conviction on federal charges stemming from a plot to frame a family member as a result of an intra-family financial dispute. (Whew. That’s a tough and wide-ranging case to attempt to summarize in a sentence.)

Breiner was accompanied by his own lawyer, San Francisco attorney Doron Weinberg, considered a top defense attorney.

Here is Weinberg’s profile from the Super Lawyers website:

ATTORNEY PROFILE
Doron Weinberg is an attorney who represents clients in the San Francisco, California area. Doron Weinberg is recognized by peers and was selected to Super Lawyers for 2004 – 2019. This selection is based off of an evaluation of 12 indicators including peer recognition and professional achievement in legal practice.

Doron Weinberg chose to pursue a career in law after completing undergraduate studies. He attended The University of Chicago Law School and graduated in 1968. Doron Weinberg passed the bar exam and was admitted to legal practice in 1970.

He represents clients with Criminal Defense: White Collar issues in California. He also represents clients with Criminal Defense and Professional Liability: Defense issues.

Being selected to Super Lawyers is limited to a small number of attorneys in each state. As one of the few attorneys to garner the distinction of Super Lawyers, Doron Weinberg has earned the respect of peers as one of the top-rated attorneys in the nation.

So why does Breiner have the need for high-powered representation in order to answer grand jury questions? We don’t know. Which means there’s still more of this story to become public.

Zuit suited, local legal-beagle, Michael Green stated early on in Kealoha case development that involvement would run deep.

Sounds like some 6th amendment issues going on with Breiner but I don’t know if what he was doing is against the law. Most definitely unethical though.
