Another difficult Feline Friday

Yes, it is Feline Friday. And, yes, this is late getting posted.

That’s because it’s a difficult day.

We are taking Duke first thing in the morning for our appointment with his vet.

It’s decision time. He is in failing health. Except for the moments every day collapsed in a spot of sun, he doesn’t have much in the way of pleasure left. He’s mostly blind now, can’t keep himself groomed, has a weird neurological thing so that he twitches and reacts any time you touch him. He’s wobbly when he walks, and often wobbles around the house aimlessly, crying along the way. He’s living with a chronic sinus or upper respiratory infection. I have tried not to lose the image of the big, proud cat that he was for so many years. It’s getting harder. It’s really no way to live, but we’ve tried not to give up.

I think it will come down to whether he is still rapidly losing weight, even though his diabetes has been under pretty good control, and he eats a lot. On his last visit, he had lost at least a couple of pounds. I’m worried that he’s eating but something prevents him from processing the nutrition from the food, and he’s slowly starving. I’m told that’s not a good way to go.

And that’s what we’ll be talking about with Dr. Sakamoto in the morning.

It’s very difficult, although we’ve known this was coming. If not now, in another while. We’re looking for what’s best for him. And we’re on the edge of a decision.

Please send him your good thoughts.

If we drop to just one cat, I don’t know how Romeo is going to handle it. Or how we’re going to handle it, for that matter.

Dr. Sakamoto is a gem! She saved my dog’s life when I was living in Century Center. The owner of the clinic wanted a few THOUSAND dollars to help my dog -or he would die-; you can imagine the stress that I was experiencing. Out came Dr. Sakamoto and spoke to me and told me the reason for my dog’s situation. Will forever be grateful to her. The $5k bill came down to just over $1k. She is a gem and knows her stuff! Ian, you and bebes are in great hands!

Duke is a lovely cat, through his chubby years and present senior days he always that sweet young kitten face. He has had a good life with you and Meda, and has been wonderful companion to you both.
