It happened about 6 pm on yesterday afternoon, Feline Friday. And a special Feline Friday, it seems.
Meda and I had spent some time with The-Cat-Currently-Known-as-Cali. It was about seven hours into her 9th day.
Meda left the room. I followed a few seconds later. Romeo was there just outside the door. We’ve kept him out of Cali’s room since she got here. I decided to just let him walk in and see what would happen.
Cali was on the futon as Romeo approached. I held my breath. She came toward him, and they touched noses. She was making a very quiet little sound, which I think was a repressed hiss, but I’m not sure. She then backed up about a foot, and slowly turned and jumped down. It was over in a moment. But I had the good sense to capture the moment with my phone!
It seemed like a good start. We’ll try again over the weekend. I might just open the door and let her explore at her own pace. She and Romeo will have to work it out. Or maybe I’ll be a helicopter parent and hover nearby the whole time. Decisions, decisions.

Don’t hover (too much)! Let them discover each other and set their own ground rules.
I think it’s time to stick to Cali. After all, you get a cool LL Cool J song you can play for her…”Going back to Cali” which has a really nice rhythmic beat…
We’re so grateful for your cats and cat stories, in this odd, strange, peculiar, weird and dangerous time we’re all 2020-ing our way through. It’s so beautiful to see some normalcy…cats figuring each other out, touching noses.
