A comment left here on a recent post pointed to a previously unreported incident in the Mike Miske story.
The commenter pointed to a Honolulu Star-Advertiser story published on May 30, 2013 (“Kailua man charged in Memorial Day shooting case“).
The story simply reported that 42-year old Jon Frederick Rapozo had been arrested on attempted murder, drug, and firearms charges after a shooting incident on Iana Street in Kailua.
The comment said Rapozo had tried to kill John Stancil, Mike Miske’s younger brother, information that as far as I know was not previously in the public record.
“Jon Frederick Rapozo shot at Miske’s half brother Jon Stancil in 2013 and the bullets went through his windshield,” according to the comment. “Miske and Stancil went to the police station and identified him to the police.”
So I looked up the case in the Judiciary’s eCourt Kokua online system. The records in the case confirm drug and firearm charges were filed against Rapozo on that date, as well as confirming Stancil and Miske were the witnesses for the prosecution.
Rapozo was apparently driving a stolen car and possessed an illegal automatic weapon with “detachable ammunition magazines” when arrested, according to court notes.
Attorney Haley Cheng appeared in court representing Stancil, while Thomas Otake appeared on behalf of Miske. Otake is one of Miske’s attorneys in the current federal case.
Rapozo eventually entered guilty pleas to two drug offenses and three firearms charges, the latter each carrying ten-year sentences.
Rapozo’s prior criminal record included a number of convictions for drug dealing and use, burglary, and auto theft.
There are no details concerning the shooting incident itself or the motive for it in the online record, and with Covid-19 restrictions, it will be a while before I’ll be able to inspect the files in person.
Looking through other matters that Miske and Stancil were involved in at that time, I haven’t been able to find anything to explain the motive for the shooting.
No explanation was given for Stancil’s presence at the scene of the shooting on Iana Street.
Thinking about the big picture, I wonder whether Rapozo was connected with a group of drug dealers who were ripped off by Stancil and other Miske associates, in the same manner as several armed robbery incidents included in the Miske indictments.
For now, the shooting incident remains a mystery.

Where is Rapozo now? When no one looking, they usually get outta jail on probation.
Look to Portugal to decriminalize drugs to dry up the profit motive.
