It’s Sunday, just after 11 a.m.
I brought The Cat Now Known as Kinikini home on Easter Sunday just before noon.
In terms of measuring Kinikini’s adaptation, I have treated that as Day #1, although it was just a partial day. Which makes today Day #29, the beginning of his 5th week as part of our household.
But actually this is the last hour of the 28th day, the final day of his 4th week.
Both ways of counting are meaningful, and I tend to jump back and forth, using one for some purposes and the other for, well, other purposes.
Perhaps that’s just the way it will remain!
In any case, this morning Kini has spent a lot of time in the living room, asserting his right to remain in this space even though it is in broad daylight. Up until now, he has slept under the futon all day, waiting until late afternoon or early evening to emerge. Yesterday, for the first time, he slept on the base of the cat tree rather than hidden under the futon. It wasn’t a big move, just a few feet, but quite symbolic. And today he started at the bottom of the cat tree, but soon emerged, tentatively at first, to walk through the living room. I think it’s just to prove he has the right to be in the living room and kitchen, even though it’s not night.
Cats have small brains, but they are pretty complicated nonetheless!
Here’s one moment from Sunday, mid-morning. If you said Kali is probably going to spin around and tell him to mind his own business, you would be correct.

“ Cats have small brains, but they are pretty complicated nonetheless.”
OMG. true that!!
Any signals that Kali remembers Kini and vice versa? Or still just cautious suspicion?
