Special edition: Feline Friday (on Tuesday)

I will have far too many photos this week if I wait until Friday to share them.

This morning, for example, I had already taken 132 photos of cats playing before 5:30 a.m.

Here’s one sequence. We’ll call it “The Chair Game.”

It starts with Kinikini wedging his front end under a chair in our living room, which gives him a view of one of the tennis balls he had been batting around the room.

This draws Kali’s attention, and she wanders over to check it out.

And what does she do? She gets close, and then takes a swat at him!

Then she retreats behind the chair and, after thinking about it for about two seconds, she starts to crawl under there as well. Luckily, after holding her position for a minute or so, she withdrew. In the photo that catches Mr. Romeo watching the action from a safe distance, you can see Kali in the background leaving the scene, and Kinikini still under the chair.

Then comes the switcheroo! Before you know it, Kali has crawled in under the chair, and Kinikini is alongside in the back trying to decide his next move.

And when he tried to walk past the chair to get out into the room, you can see the scene as Kali leapt out to take another potshot at him!

And then the game ends, with Kali clearly in control of the “under the chair” territory.

So I started out worried that Kini might play too hard, and Kali turned out to be the aggressor that kept kept the game going.

Earlier, they did the same dance with an empty box I had set aside to throw away.

So I guess you can say they’re getting along.

Anyway, do enjoy this special edition of Feline Friday (on Tuesday).

Yes, it’s play, although they are still working out the fine details. There have been no signs of actual aggression. No puffed up body/tail, no ears back, no snarling, no claws-out attacks. It has all been good, despite our worries along the way.
