Feline Friday: Ms. Kali’s first anniversary

We picked up The-Cat-Now-Known-As-Kali from the home of her rescuer near the top of Aiea Heights on September 24, 2020, one year ago today.

Several days later, I described how things were going.

It’s about Hour 93 since we brought The-Cat-Currently-Known-as-Cali home. She’s a rescue from a cat colony at the top of Aiea Heights. One of the people who feeds the cats up there has seen her for some time. She’s very friendly, and obviously had been someone’s cat. So he finally scooped her up, got her checked out, and saw that we were looking to adopt a cat or perhaps a pair of kittens. She is so friendly and sweet that we decided to bring Cali home.

Well, she has been mostly hiding under the futon in our small spare bedroom. She does come out to eat, drink, and attend to her bodily functions. I know because there’s evidence of each. Food disappears, the water level goes down in her bowl, and I have to scrape out the litter box. All systems are working. And she’ll let me bring her out from her under-the-futon comfort zone in order to properly pet her at least once or twice a day. But she’s happy under there, feels safe, and purrs loudly whenever I visit.

And now she’s the Queen of the house, although that interloper, Kinikini, thinks he’s in charge. But they’ve worked it out, and now get along very well with each other, and with old Mr. Romeo.

So Happy First Anniversary, Ms. Kali!

There’s one special photo of Kinikini in this batch. It shows him in his private spot up on the top shelf of our closet, where he has made a next on a stack of my jeans. Formerly blue jeans, now with a nice patina of cat fur. But he likes to climb up there and “disappear” for a while each day. Meda had to move things off the top of the dresser that he uses as a jumping off spot, after they kept getting knocked onto the floor as he launched up to the next level. I hope a good layer of cat hair will come off in the wash!

Congratulations to Miss Kali!!! So happy to see both her and Kinikini flourishing at Casa Lind! Extra special that they’re getting along so well with Mr. Romeo!

Hopefully Kini is only putting layers of hair on your “dress” jeans that you infrequently wear except for airline flights and posh conferences!

Maika’i no Miss Kali and kudos to you and Meda for your loving care of three beautiful cats. They have truly found their 7th heaven in your care.
