The three former officials named in a federal indictment this week–former corporation counsel Donna Leong, former managing director Roy Amemiya, and former police commission chair Max Sword–were familiar faces in city government for a number of years.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean that their backgrounds are widely known.
Now that they’ve been thrust into the public spotlight, I always say that more information is always a good thing.
So I searched through the city’s Docushare online document retrieval system and dug out copies of the forms each of them completed at the time they were nominated or appointed to their positions.

Roy Amemiya graduated from Punahou on 1983. Why does his application show graduation from Leilehua High?
I believe Keith Amemiya, Roy’s cousin, is the 1983 Punahou grad.
Punahou Mafia.
So Amemiya, despite his vast banking background and Olelo stint STILL had to go hat-in-hand to Calvin Say for a made up, show up job in order to secure C&C retirement bennies for life ON THE TAXPAYERS?
“Smilin” Maxie Sword seems like a professional commission member/glad hander and not much more other than being a youth soccer ref. He must have incredible social skills and probably got lots of people to cough up lots of money for Krook Caldwell.
Leong seems the most straight forward of the three, professionally and qualifications for her position-wise. Though her connections with Sword probably come from their Outrigger network.
ALL roads lead to Caldwell. He can’t pull a “Sergeant Schultz” on this.
Wow…Olelo continues its legacy to be synonymous with Corruption and defrauding.
Thank you, Ian, this is most helpful.
I can’t believe these three very talented and basically good people were arrested. Not that I am saying they shouldn’t have been, but what motivated them to do something to get them arrested in the first place?
Something smells very fishy.
“…but what motivated them to do something to get them arrested in the first place?”
All roads lead to Caldwell.
Former corporation counsel’s car in the TV news has an interesting regular license plate for someone with a JD degree. Just a coincidence?
