When I made my first round of picks for this week’s Feline Friday, it was dominated by Ms. Bessie.

Although she does sleep part of the day, she also spends several hours more out in the living room interacting with Meda and me while Kali and Kinikini are still sound asleep.

So to even things out, I dug out a dangling cat toy, then armed with toy and camera, I went in to wake up Kali and capture some additional images. She loves that toy, so it worked like a charm. The final set has a bit more balance, I think.

You’ll see one photo of Kinikini on the kitchen counter taking a swat at Kali while Bessie looks on. I never said there weren’t occasional skirmishes that, like this one, were brief, transient, and of little consequence. They allow Kinikini to feel like he’s the alpha cat, although it’s clear that he isn’t really. Saving face through an occasional swat or chase, I would call it.

Also of note–we’re slowly getting a few more minutes of afternoon sun. Cats are naturally attracted.
