After a long period without much sun in the house, the cats are now basking daily in more than two hours of sun that fills the area in front of the doors leading out to our back deck.
Cats, being natural heat seekers, are drawn to the sun. No prompting needed. Sometimes it’s just one or the other, sometimes all four, although sometimes there are tensions due to the pecking order, or perhaps its ambiguities in the pecking order that cause occasional bickering.
So this week, you’ll see cats lined up in the afternoon sun, over several different days. Every afternoon the “musical chairs” play out as cats follow the sun as it slowly moves. Often they’re very cooperative, but at times there’s an aggressive paw raised and responded to.
You’ll notice that Bessie picked up a scratch across her nose, and is wearing it proudly. We don’t have a suspect in mind. Kini or Kali could easily have been responsible. It’s mainly remarkable that the full house chases don’t cause more such injuries.
In any case, enjoy the cats, hopefully as much as they’re enjoying themselves.

The Sweetheart Collective! Mahalo for all your great pics Ian!
What a great group. One has to wonder who the sharp clawed one was ! Also I was introduced to your library of photos. I was previously unaware.
I can’t narrow the suspect list down very far. Romeo didn’t do it. I can pretty authoritatively say that. But I can’t guess which of the remaining suspects did the deed. Both would be considered “persons of interest.”
I think Kali is a lot tougher than she appears. It didn’t help matters that ANOTHER cute-as-heck calico came along to give her competition 😀
I love that the gang seem to be showing lots of love or at least respect towards Romeo. Also good to see Kali still keeping her property rights on that fuzzy pillow of hers!
Such sweet photos. Loved the narrative too!
Thanks for the smiles to start my day.
