Our pizza was in the oven. We were waiting to eat, and had a drink while we watched as the awards were announced.
I’m glad to say that I received a nice birthday present, the top award for Government Reporting in the “All Media” category for my reporting on the Miske case.

“sober view of what was hidden in plain site” is absolutely correct! I had been following your writing back when it was about the lighted tree on Maunalua Bay. Thank you for covering this case so well.

You mean Miske’s sweetheart deal with ex councilperson Trevor Ozawa??
Yes, it’s sorta amazing how this had faded. I keep wondering if Ozawa’s name is anywhere in all that evidence the Feds apparently have on Miske Enterprises.
I also find myself wondering if there is a Miske connection to the other bizarre thing Ozawa did in office. He tried really hard to get the Mayor to eliminate the contra flow lanes on Kapiolani blvd in the weekday morning and afternoons. Like threatened to withhold funding from other things kinda hard. He said he heard from area residents who didn’t like having to go around the block to get home at night. But anyone with half a brain knows that for the vast majority of commuters that contra flow lane is a godsend, and eliminating it would mean everyone is sitting in congestion. I assume one of his wealthy/powerful supporters selfishly wanted it. Could that be Miske?
