I’m not clear what this means, but thought it worth sharing.
Hawaii News Now is already the state’s dominant multimedia news organization serving CBS afflilate KGMB, NBC affiliate KHNL, and KFVE. All three stations are owned by Gray Television.
The stations share studios on Waiakamilo road, and broadcast news produced by HNN.
In October, Gray was advertising 16 news positions at KHNL. Whether this represents an expansion of HNN, or a full-on news operation at KHNL, isn’t known, but it would appear to represent a substantial investment in either case.
Among the full-time positions at KHNL being advertised are news anchor, technical media producer, news producer, meteorologist, traffic reporter, assignment editor, digital content news producer, photo journalist/editor (plus a separate part-time position), plus several others, including a “future focus intern. Closing dates for applications ran from October 6 through October 31.
The recruitment advertising did not indicate starting dates.

Several members of the current KHNL News Team, lean far left. Two names come to mind one is Mark Carpenter and the other is Keahi Tucker. During the Governor’s debate Tucker insert a fact checker comment in the live forum. Similar to Face Book or CNN. It wasn’t necessary in a debate. In essence, inserting editorializing, as a third party debater, in which opposing candidates should have that opportunity.
So facts don’t matter in an election? Apparently not for the “far right.”
Heaven forbid that lying politicians are fact checked.. Funny thing is, I thought that was the roll of the press in a nominally democratic society.
Personally, as shallow as this may seem, I wish they would hire a voice coach, a stylist, and a pronunciation resource. They are also in need of a good editor or producer, to make sure that all w’s are answered, maps have proper captions, and silly comments are kept to a minimum. This organization, as powerful as it is, is amateurish in almost every way: researching, writing and presenting the news, and an embarrassment.
Appreciate the heads up. Can be no more than an expansion of legacy media, who “reported” in court — during a case challenging Russiagate television news — they are not providing viewers news, it is entertainment tv.
Certainly not expecting any badly needed and desired independent news.
I was involved in a story that they squashed. I strongly suspect they don’t run stories that are contrary to their former director who is now Mayor or his allies.
Good to see that a media company is actually hiring news staff, especially seeing how the local newspaper has been in a perpetual cutback mode. I hope folks in the print medium can make the adjustment to audio-visual reporting. There’s a significant difference in how stories are handled.
