My latest Mike Miske-related story is posted at Civil Beat this morning (“A North Shore Shooting That Left Two Men Dead Has An Intriguing Link To The Miske Case/New details surfacing in court records show the involvement of an FBI informant”).
The first paragraph sets up the story.
A 20-year-old man who shot and killed two others in an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of Haleiwa Joe’s Seafood Grill on Aug. 31, 2018, was an FBI confidential source in the investigation leading to the indictment of Honolulu businessman and alleged racketeering gang leader, Michael J. Miske Jr.
It started as I was digging through documents filed in court. One was a single-page document attached as Exhibit 20 to a motion filed by attorneys for John Stancil, Miske’s half-brother and co-defendant, on June 16, seeking his release from the Federal Detention Center. Exhibit 19 in that same set of documents had been the basis for my earlier story published more than two months ago.
An FBI investigator whose gmail account and residence were searched by his own agency in 2019 and 2020 as part of a criminal investigation linked to the case of accused racketeering boss Michael J. Miske Jr. was part of a team of FBI surveillance specialists charged with keeping tabs on Miske and several associates, according to documents filed in court last week.
The documents, which include eight surveillance-related records containing a total of just 47 pages, became public when they were were attached as exhibits to a motion filed in Honolulu’s federal court on Friday by attorneys representing John Stancil, Miske’s half-brother and one of his six remaining co-defendants.
In any case, the new information is intriguing. There are still a lot of unknowns about the shootings and the underlying circumstances, described in news reports at the time a a feud between two families. The extent to which those might be somehow indirectly related to the Miske case remains to be seen.
In any case, hop over to Civil Beat to read the latest.

Every time I read one of your Miske articles, I think that I would really like to see your work room on this. Im imaging all sorts of flow charts that are running back forth on themselves just to keep the players straight AND also all of the activities and connections. This whole process has been fascinating and I have been following since the first lighted tree At Mauna Lua Bay article not knowing when it would lead. Thank you for your diligent and very organized coverage. In less organized and persistent hands this would be a giant mess.
Regarding the lighted tree at Maunalua Bay and flow charts, I’m curious if there were/are any other tie-ins with Miske and Trevor Ozawa, who battled for Miske’s memorial tree cause a bit over enthusiastically I thought at the time.
Yes, I have a feeling at some point that will be opened up and revealed… at least I hope so.
Double homicide and wild shoot-out in the heart of Haleiwa sure didn’t receive much media coverage or follow-up scrutiny.
