Behind the scenes of Feline Friday

Over on Facebook, Jeannine posted a comment that deserves a response. She wrote: “Sometimes I think you pose them because they look so perfect or their faces so expressive.”

Here’s the thing. I don’t go through the week and take a couple of dozen photos, then choose the best to use for FF. I wish it were that easy.

I have to watch every day for those limited periods when the lighting is good and at least one cat is awake. And then I have to be lucky enough to have a camera near at hand, and be able to get a photo before the cat, now awake, moves off to do something else.

Over the course of a week, I end up with hundreds of photos, many hundreds, to pore over and hope to find enough with the perfect expressions, good lighting, and a background that isn’t too disruptive.

I also have a choice of cameras, although most of the cat photos are taken with my Canon M6ii and a couple of different lenses. But when I have enough time to think about what camera to use, it further complicates things for me.

So, bottom line, the weekly collection of Feline Friday photos conceals the chaos of the previous week as I struggle to collect photos that are good enough to share. Unlike something I’m writing, which can be endlessly edited and updated, photos that miss “THE” moment can’t be fixed. I just have to keep trying until the week is over and the deadline nears.

Perhaps one week I should post a set of all the photos from which the select few are chosen. I’ll have to work on that.

Anyway, thanks for the comment, Jeannine. Enjoy the cats.

I want to be one of your cats. If I lie in your bed all day snuggling with the other felines will you feed and water me? I promise to pose for photos when you ask. Lol
