“No Kings” protest at the Hawaii State Capitol

Here’s my batch of photos taken at today’s “No Kings” protest at the Hawaii State Capitol.

It was a very large crowd stretching several blocks in downtown Honolulu.

Multi-ethnic, multi-issue, and all ages were represented.

I hope that this batch of photos will give you a good flavor of the spirit of the day.

The winner of the popular vote is hated and opposed in order to protect democracy. Got it. Maybe accept the majority’s decision and elect someone else next time?
““The greatest lesson for democracies to learn is for the majority to give to the minority a full, free opportunity to present their side of the case, and then for the minority, having failed to win a majority to their views, gracefully to submit and to recognize the action as that of the entire organization, and cheerfully to assist in carrying it out until they can secure its repeal.”
? Henry Martyn Robert, Parliamentary Law
In the meantime, open contempt for the President is, really, one of our freedoms, so…have at it!

Oh, I see. Sort of like how President 45 responded after his loss at the polls in 2020. Your party loyalty is overriding your good sense.

Ian, I think your comment here overrides good sense and undermines the thoughtful point that was being made. It’s the kind of deflection that adds heat, not light. You should consider taking it down — or at least reconsider whether it reflects the standards of fairness and dialogue your page is known for.

Boyd J Ready quoted Henry Martyn Robert to remind us that in a democracy, the majority rules and the minority abides — not forever, but respectfully, until the next vote. That’s how peaceful transitions work.

Let’s see what happens in 2026 midterms.

IF Democrats gain majorities in the two chambers, will the MAGAots graciously concede or will they deny, obfuscate and commit ILLEGAL acts to nullify the election????? I’m sure they are already enacting plans to skew the election their way from voter suppression, purging voter rolls and actual hacking into state election computers with the help of their new best friends in the tech world.

I’m always curious about die hard MAGAots and their loyalty to a person that really couldn’t give fxxk about them, unless they are fabulously RICH?? Is it the free pass to be openly racist? To be hostile to people that simply choose alternative lifestyles? To force their religious dogma onto people that would rather not be HYPOCRITES?

The HATE oozes out with the MAGAot crowd and events in Minneapolis are evidence of the rhetoric now becoming action.

Authorities have reportedly identified Vance Luther Boelter as the Minnesota shooter. He was reportedly initially appointed by Gov. Mark Dayton in 2016, before being reappointed by Gov. Tim Walz in 2019 as a private sector representative to the council.

And he is a certified, 100% MAGAot, according to his roommate and best friend of over 40 YEARS. Sorry but no matter how much you people try to cover up, obfuscate and “whatabout” the situation, it does not change that this terrorist is a hardcore, Trump LOVING, right wing, ersatz “Christian” MAGAot. So what’s your POINT??

How many governors/mayors/etc routinely appoint “bipartisan” (just to show they’re playing nice and fairly) committees or advisory boards??? It happens ALL the time and usually for benign activities like….private sector representatives to give input to government leadership to help with economic development, public transportation, etc. You know…like HART or the tourism board.

So don’t try to change the narrative and throw in your Stephen Miller directed response that says this act of terrorism and murder has nothing to do with the current occupant of the White House and the perp is a “progressive” or “Democrat”. That’s just being willfully disingenuous and outright bullshitting.

In 2024 he won a plurality of all popular votes cast. He has never won a majority of all votes cast in the three election he has run in. Some mandate.

Awesome work of photojournalism! (All your Feline-Friday photo practice seems to be paying off!) Thank you so much for doing this. Knowing that SO MANY feel exactly as I do helps preserve what’s left of my mental health. I have been devastated ever since Trump’s re-election. Lots of great creative signs! (I particularly like the one depicting Lilo clobbering you know who.)
