Photos from Portland

It’s early morning on Super Bowl Sunday in Honolulu. Outside our mango trees are dancing in strong gusts of wind and a high wind warning remains in effect.

Strong winds may lead to property damage. Hazardous driving conditions due to powerful cross winds will pose a serious risk for drivers, especially for light weight and high profile vehicles. Loose outdoor items should be brought inside or secured properly. A High Wind Warning means that winds are expected to be at least 40 mph, with gusts over 60 mph. Stay away from downed power lines.

Meanwhile, here are photos of anti-ICE protests in Portland taken by numerous photographers and scraped up from the photo site, Flickr.com.

You should not need a Flickr membership to scroll through the photos, although I have no doubt that you’ll be asked if you want to set up an account.

We lost power for two days last week. I work at home and couldn’t even get a Hotspot working because the network was jammed. We have two shiny new transformers on our street so hoping for the best.

I am traveling to Portland soon to check out possible retirement locations. Guess I will bring my gas mask because you are never too old to stand up to tyrrany, but I am way too old to stand by and do nothing. Should I be gassed and anyone tries to say I brought it on myself by being there, well, they can just talk to my cane.

I don’t have all that much time left on this planet regardless and it might be fun to go out as the poster child for something. “Rubbah slippah-weilding old lady in sleeveless muumuu takes on ICE!” It will be like the guy in Tiananmen Square.

I am so over this kukae.

Keep in mind that all that ruckus is in a small area of just a couple of blocks around the ICE building. The rest of Portland is as pleasant as ever, with a fine art museum, Powell’s Books, and great food. We have other friends who retired to Vancouver, Washington, just across the river from Portland. Enjoy your location scouting! We’ll be there March 9-17 catching up with friends and family.
