Noon here, and it is absolutely still, not even a hint of wind. I did hear one clap of thunder a few minutes ago. According to NOAA’s 1100 update, the eye of the hurricane is almost due South of Hilo. Overnight, we had about 1.6″ of rain.
I will be very pleased if we can continue to dodge the bullet. Our bamboo have many new shoots that are very weak. Later, they will become extremely strong, but right now they are very vulnerable to strong winds and other stresses.

The earthquake was quite a surprise. For us, it was a brief, strong jolt that really shock the house and knocked a few books fell off of a book shelf.
