Tuesday…Anxious moments, that ‘ol French bank, Dog posters, etc.

There were a few anxious moments yesterday, both when the National Weather Service discussion of Hurricane Flossie were referring to the storm’s refusal to give in to adverse environmental conditions and was maintaining its strength as it headed towards us, and when my laptop started having trouble opening certain files and searching for particular emails. Both problems were solved, the latter by running disk utility software, the former by the passage of enough time to see the weakening trends appear.

I’ve been puzzling over local reporting of the global stock market roller coaster of the past week. When stock markets around the world swooned, and a French bank’s freeze on three investment funds added to the global financial panic, I don’t recall the obvious mention that BNP Paribas happens to be the corporate owner of First Hawaiian Bank. Those far off funds probably won’t have any impact on FHB, but you would think this might trigger some further reporting on the local bank’s situation.

Meanwhile, a reader raised this question:

I have a question for you. If you go to Dog Chapman’s storefront office across from Central Intermediate School, the Dog has each of the large plate glass windows covered with posters for his new book.

I thought this was illegal under Honolulu’s sign ordinance. Isn’t that why the Coke and Pepsi machines no longer have their signs and logos?

Is the Dog getting special treatment because of his TV show.

I can’t answer that question off the top of my head, although I certainly recall the flap over vending machine signs. Anybody else know the answer?

And another reader ponders news of KHON anchor Joe Moore’s play, which has been getting lots of coverage by…Joe Moore.

curious as i read the star-bull profile today. did you or anyone else know this is a “reading.” dreyfus says they “don’t have to memorize anything.”

Come to think of it, I did not know that.

Kitten

And the playing kitten keeps going, and going, and I’ve had to get out the water bottle to squirt her when those bad behaviors start. You know, like when those incredibly sharp little kitten claws shred a person’s legs as kitten tries to hoist herself up the uncovered limbs.
