Okay, so we all liked to complain about CompUSA–the poor customer service, the fact that you could be standing among a sea of red-shirted employees but not be able to find one authorized to help you make a purchase, etc, etc. But I admit a bit of regret on hearing the announcement that the electronic is chain is going to be liquidated, although a sale of the Honolulu location would grant a reprieve for those of us who enjoy browsing the available toys and tools.

Leaders of the world’s economic leaders scheduled to meet in Hawaii next month for talks on curbing greenhouse gasses? That’s what Reuters has reported. I guess this means Honolulu will be facing another budget busting round of police overtime and other security expenses.

According to a press release, the big change for the upcoming 2008 legislative session will be a paperless State Senate. In the House, handling of testimony will be centralized, with individual committee clerks relieved of that responsibility of collating hearing testimony. Energy saving flat screens have replaced all the old computer monitors throughout the House as well. The Legislature’s internal Eclipse computer system has also been upgraded, allowing a version upgrade in the Microsoft Office applications (Word & Excel) that are the workhorses powering most work at the Capitol. And the internal wireless network has been beefed up to provide access from individual offices. Previously it served primarily hearing rooms and public spaces.

Last night we celebrated my dad’s 94th birthday at my parents’ home in Kahala. My sister and her cat, Mr. Purrkins, who moved over from California several months ago, are also living there in the house we grew up in. I broiled a couple of steaks, charred several potatoes, and washed that down with a green salad, sliced avocado and tomatoes, sourdough bread, champagne, and a bottle of Spanish wine.
