I was sitting at a table in a corner of the Colorado Convention Center when I was offered an Obama button.

Then I was given an explanation–that button was made by a preschooler, a special project, because she wants Obama to be president.

This led into a conversation with a family hard at work making and distributing home made buttons. They’ve been heavily into this for many months.

I asked if they could describe the project for folks at home, and they readily agreed to provide a couple of spokesmen, and here they are to explain about the buttons and to make their case for Obama!

I have to say that this was a very inspiring moment. Here are a few otherwise normal people who have taken the initiative to do something very meaningful to convey their message. Getting a hand made button done created in a school, or a living room, or a play area by just plain folks is a very different experience from picking a commercial button from the capitalist frenzy so visible outside this convention center in Denver.

Their moms were reluctant to say more about themselves because, they say, this is about Obama and not about them.

But they were excited that their buttons were going to Hawaii because that’s where Barack Obama is from! I’ll do my bit for the cause by carrying them home and by letting them tell their story here.

I think there’s a lot of this spirit here in Denver during the convention, and it gets buried by the professional politicians, the corporate interests, even those just more experienced in the ways of the political world. But this kind of thing is what really moves politics and holds out the hope for our future.
