Sweeping up Denver

In preparation for the Democratic convention, I’m told that police swept street people out of downtown.

I don’t know whether this was by arrests or otherwise.

Also rumors that kids on probation were threatened and told to stay away from the downtown area during the week.

None of this would be a surprise.

But it has been a hidden side of the convention preparations.

–I’m glad Denver is being swept.

    –How about sweeping up Schofield?

–Better wear a mask. And use a loooong-handled broom.

    –From the Advertiser:

“The Army set fire to 1,200 acres of a practice range at Schofield Barracks today to help control the outbreaks of potentially damaging wildfires.

Army fire and safety specialists, in coordination with the Federal Fire Department, conducted the prescribed burn at an impact site north of Kolekole and Trimble roads and west of the military housing at Maile Terrace, Kolekole Ridge and Hendrickson Heights.

“There’s still a couple of areas that are still lit and so they’re going to watch it until it burns out,” said Stefanie Gardin, a spokeswoman for U.S. Army Garrison. “Keep an eye on it, monitor it to make sure there’s no flare-ups.”

The prescribed burn is part of the Army’s ongoing plan to manage and protect range areas, decrease the danger of wild fires and SURVEY FOR DEPLETED URNANIUM, Gardin said.”

    — Urnanium? What’s the fallout over this?

Democracy Now has had live reporting from peace marches, police surrounded marchers and arrested everyone, including legal observers and people who happened to be on the sidewalk. Police estimated to outnumber protestor by two to one. It was noted that the police are not displaying any identification. This is, I believe, against the law. Police have to be identifiable.
