Charles Djou and his money

A Honolulu Advertiser story this morning by Derrick DePledge reports that Republican candidate Charles Djou has topped his opponents in fundraising, but there’s no information in the story identifying his donors or describing the donor base.

I checked the Federal Election Commission web site this morning.

On May 8, Djou filed a report on last-minute donations.

A list of Djou’s PAC contributions for the month of April 2010 is available from the FEC, led by the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Koch Industries, Inc., NRA-Political Victory Fund, and the GOP GOP Generation Y Fund.

Individual contributors during April 2010 are also listed by the FEC. It would be interesting to compare this to Gov. Lingle’s contributor list and to the Republican Party’s list to see whether Djou is drawing from outside the normal GOP base.

Here are the earlier PAC contributions through the end of March, the last full quarterly filing. It’s, led by a bunch of national Republican PACs, and then things like the “Committee for the Preservation of Capitalism” (big corporations and corporate PACs of all kinds), Exxon Mobil PAC, Halliburton Company PAC, and Walt Disney Productions.

Here’s the top of this PAC list:

NATIONAL REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEE 3/8/10 $5,000
WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS EMPLOYEES PAC, THE 10/23/09 $5,000
CONTINUING A MAJORITY PARTY ACTION COMMITTEE (CAMPAC) 3/22/10 $3,000
COMMITTEE FOR THE PRESERVATION OF CAPITALISM (CPC), THE 12/8/09 $2,500
EVERY REPUBLICAN IS CRUCIAL (ERICPAC)
9/25/09 $2,500
EVERY REPUBLICAN IS CRUCIAL (ERICPAC)
12/29/09 $2,500
EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (EXXONMOBIL PAC) 3/26/10 $2,500

Then here’s one final bit of information–the most recent personal financial disclosure filed with the City Clerk by Councilman Djou. Although the candidates file financial disclosures as part of the U.S. House procedures, those are apparently not available for inspection here in Hawaii.

The city disclosure is pretty plain vanilla. Perhaps the most intriguing thing to me is the absence of any organizational affiliations. Neither Djou nor his wife sit on the boards of any community organizations, unlike many active elected officials. These would be found in the section on fiduciary positions. It’s blank.

I had to go back to a report filed soon after his election to the council in order to find any indication of outside interests. Here he listed himself as General Counsel/Attorney of KD Construction Inc, with a salary between $50,000 and $99,999.

Isn’t this alot of money for someone who would have to face a single challenger from the Democratic party pretty soon? I may be wrong but i heard the winner here has to win in a general election pretty soon (?). It seems to be putting undue benefit on being an incumbent.
But then, this falls on Ambercrombies lap.

Well this confirms Djou is nothing but a mindless pawn of the Republican party’s cash machine. He parrots the radical Republican line down to the last talking point.

Also, didja know: winner of special will pocket $100,000 salary for remainder of Abercrombie’s term.

Finally… Anyone see the Office of Elections TV spot that says to MAIL ballots on May 22? Did I hear right? If so, vote tally should be delayed.

I wonder if anyone at the Office of the City Clerk reviews these disclosures. Out of idle curiosity I checked the 3 tax map keys on page 6. Only the third one is valid according to honolulupropertytax.com.
