Fragments of Aloha Week history 1949-1955

Aloha WeekMore stuff pulled from my dad’s boxes of “stuff”–bits and pieces from Aloha Week celebrations from 1949-1955, soon after the event was started by the “Oldtimers” of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

I’m not sure which year this Waikiki Surf Club float dates from. Is that Kalakaua Avenue? King Street? I’m not at all sure.

In any case, click on the photo to see the full gallery of Aloha Week clippings and photos.

Ian, canoe building…a letter from the territorial governor then a photo of the actual tree from Kulani prison, selected by your Dad. Feel the mana, take pride in your Father, he was a mover and shaker. As always, thanks for sharing. Aloha.

My parents had sailed on the Lurline to Hawaii in 1955 just in time to arrive at Honolulu on Oahu during Aloha Week where my father, Carl C. Spring, marched in a parade. As I recall, Aloha Week was during the first week in November.

I must make a correction to my original comment. In 1955, Aloha Week had probably occurred during the last week in September or the first week in October because, on the Mainland, President Dwight D. Eisenhower came down with a very serious heart attack on September 23, 1955. So, please, correct my error. JWS
