Vote on Mormon’s proposed Laie/Malaekahana city voided by Neighborhood Commission

Thanks to the Hawaiian Independent for reporting the news that the Honolulu Neighborhood Commission voided a 2009 vote of the Koolauloa Neighborhood Board in favor of the proposed “Envision Laie” development.

The Commission found several violations of the sunshine law, including the board’s failure to allow all interested persons to testify on the issue and its requirement that written testimony be submitted, although the testimony was not considered before the board’s vote.

However, the commission sidestepped the issue of conflict of interest on the part of board members affiliated with BYUH or the Mormon Church because “insufficient evidence was presented to demonstrate that any Board member engaged in any business transaction or activity or had a direct or indirect financial interest which was incompatible or interfered with the proper discharge of his or her official duties.”

Six members of the board “disclosed personal and professional relationships with certain entities that were involved with Envision Laie,” according to the commission’s findings.

But under the commission’s rules, the burden of proof, including gathering of evidence, is placed on the person filing a complaint.

This is the best-kept secret with the Star Advertiser, the Biz Journals and the other media bought by their lobbyists. I wonder if Mayor Carlisle is taking note of this. It’s just the tip of the ice-berg.

What a shame it took this many months for the Neighborhood Commission to address this issue. It is a well-known fact that the Hawaii Reserves, Brigham Young University and Polynesian Cultural Center strawmen were planted there for one purpose.

The EnvisionLaie is a journey of rich and powerful corporations steeped in deceit, scam, arrogance and intimidation cloaked in ‘affordable housing’, ‘jobs’ and ‘holiness’.

Question biased in favor of Laie expansion

Thursday’s Big Q asked, “Do you approve of Brigham Young University-Hawaii’s plans to rezone agricultural lands around its Laie campus to address the area’s need for jobs and affordable housing?”

When a question presents only the upside of an issue, it would not be surprising if a majority votes yes. Ask if you would support 100 or more homeowners displaced in order to widen Kamehameha Highway to support the added traffic, as has been suggested, and you might get a few more Nos. Laie and environs are not structured for such expansion, which would permanently deform the character and ambience of the area for residents and visitors alike.

How many full-time media consultants do Hawaii Reserves have? I saw this on their FACEBOOK. Is this Steve Hoag related to the Jack Hoag with the First Hawaii Bank who was the only bank who sided with Turtle Bay Resort?

According to Paumalu Press, the City had asked the developers to go to the Neighborhood Board for many months but they stalled till ‘their’ board was elected. The NB voting returns were only 6% returns. But the developers worked hard for these candidates to get in.

When the HRI/PCC/BYU stacked Neighborhood Board was elected, they quickly held that Special Meeting of July 30, 2009.

Richard Fale was the one who was conducting this meeting although Junior Primacio was the Chair. We believe it was a publicity promotion for Richard Fale who would then ran an unsuccessful House of Representatives.

“The Commission further finds that the technical violation committed by the Koolauloa Neighborhood Board No. 28 is so
serious and deleterious to the integrity of the neighborhoodboard system that sanctions are appropriate under the circumstances.”

The Neighborhood Board Commission was too easy on NB#28. Everybody in the Ko’olauloa region knows of the wheeling and dealing. Hawaii Reserves employee Kela Miller was forcing to take a vote a couple times. This was definitely with clear intent.

Talking about Mormons vs all others. Jonathan Durrett and Aaron Shumway are Mormon attorneys.
