I visited the Legislative Reference Bureau’s web site this morning to check out agency reports that were supposed to be submitted in advance of this legislative session.

LRB maintains a listing of agencies with links to their reports.

I just flagged a few to go back to….

Preliminary report of the Mortgage Foreclosure Task Force.

Report on status of respective purchases and use of locally produced produce or other Hawaii agriculture products, FY2010. Three paragraphs basically saying, “we don’t know nothing.” No author indicated, although the cover sheet identifies it as a “University of Hawaii System Report.”

Here’s what the resolution regarding use of local produce called for:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, the Senate concurring, that the University of Hawaii, Department of Education, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation and other state public entities are requested to commit to healthier and more nutritious meals in their programs by spending percent of their food dollars for locally-produced produce or other Hawaii agricultural products; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these agencies submit a report to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the Regular Session of 2011 on the status of their respective purchases and use of locally-produced produce or other Hawaii agricultural products and any recommendations for improvements in meeting this goal;

I would say UH basically blew off the reso. I would have been embarrassed to turn in something this minimal. There are quite a few other UH reports. Hopefully others are more substantive.

Claims and Lawsuits Arbitrated, Compromised or Settled for $10,000 or Less. It seems the state is paying out a lot of money for damages to cars caused by weed whackers and potholes.

DAGS has a bunch of reports, many concerning information privacy and security.

The Dept. of Health link goes back to reports submitted for last year’s session. Currently, no reports submitted in advance of this session are listed, at least not where the LRB links take the reader.

Also recommended: The annual report of the Office of the Ombudsman. The latest covers fiscal year 2009-2010. It’s interesting to see what departments draw the most complaints (Public Safety led with 234 substantiated complaints, Human Services with 83, B&F with 30, and DOE with 25). Also, don’t miss the summaries of sample cases.
