Senate documents may crash your Mac

State Senate documents posted on the capitol web site in pdf format are not Mac or iPad friendly, according to information received from Sen. Les Ihara’s office.

YI: I am forwarding the information below to people who might use a Mac or iPad to access senate PDF documents.

To Office Managers: If you use a Mac or iPad, or have staff who does, I wanted to let you know that senate PDF documents produced by the print shop may not be viewed fully on Macs and iPads when using the Safari browser. However, the documents can be accessed by using Firefox on the Mac, and Atomic Web on the iPad; see below.

• Firefox is free and can be downloaded at:
• Atomic Web costs 99¢ and can be downloaded as an app on the iPad

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, and share with other Mac and iPad users.

Heather Bolan, Office Manager
Senator Les Ihara, Jr.

I haven’t run into similar trouble with House documents. Perhaps its time for House and Senate to get together and solve this one.

My Mac didn’t crash when I tried to view Senate docs, but I did notice the Safari connection grinding to a halt. Thanks for the info.

PDF downloads from the Senate work on Firefox on macs at home.

Re: ipad. I’ve successfully downloaded large PDF testimonies, etc. from Senate links by saving them in ibooks, a free app. When I initiate the download, I am asked whether or not I want to save the PDF in ibooks. Once in ibooks, I can scroll through the document like any other ibook document.

NOw tha civil unions has passed, what can we do to eliminate discrimination against Mac users?

OTOH, Mac users tend to be smarter, better looking and more creative. So maybe there is a just God in Heaven working to even things out.

(You guys should try using a PPC-based Mac instead the newer Intel Macs. Online streaming video which used to work fine now grinds to a sputtering, staggering halt. I think they have switched a newer, more CPU-intensive codec.)
