A visit from the peacock family

The whole family of Pea Fowl gathered in our yard yesterday. Three adults, three youngsters. Much of the time was spent sunning and preening. Some sleeping. And some marauding through our plants. They munched through much of Meda’s recently planted hot pepper plant, although they weren’t as interested in the basil. Several spent time on the roof of the garage, pecking through some accumulated leaves that I haven’t clean off.

Our only current rule is that they aren’t allowed to sit on the new decks (although today’s cat pictures show they still try). Peacock poop is a pain to clean off the decks, we discovered previously, so deck sitting is now a no-no.

Anyway, here’s the little band as they made their way around the yard.

Big birds

A neighbor and I agreed that we would rather have these peacocks and their crew than the feral chickens that populate Kaaawa. The chickens are nastier and not as nice to look at.
